Concrete staining enhances your residential or commercial concrete floors. Staining concrete is one of the most affordable options of refinishing your floors without spending too much money.

There are many options to choose from to match your personal style or taste. They allow you to add custom graphics, bold design accents or just a subtle hint of color. You can choose 1 color or go with a mixed color pallet.

Acid staining your concrete adds character to the floor by adding deep, rich, translucent colors. The new look is unique and distinct because acid staining looks different on every floor. This happens because every concrete surface reacts with the stain differently, especially if the concrete is older or has a unique textures. Environmental factors even play a part in determining what they final stain will look like.

Concrete Staining Options: You have 2 different options to choose from when it comes to concrete stains: Acid Stains & Dye Stains.

Acid concrete stains are reactive stains which are water based and contain acidic solutions/metallic salts. Once the concrete’s lime comes into contact with these salts it creates natural effects such as mottling and color variations like you see in marble and granite. With acid stain you are limited to earth tone colors that are soft like terra cotta, blue-greens, tans and browns.

Dye concrete stains are non-reactive stains which are water based and contain acrylic solutions. These types of stains do not chemically react with the concrete. Dye concrete stains provide more vibrant color options which can also be blended and mixed to create more color options than acid stains can. If you are looking for bright colors, dye concrete stains are the way to go.

If you want solid bright vibrant color choices go with a dye stain but if you want a more dramatic effect with color variations go with acid stains.

Acid Stains

Acid stain is a combination of hydrochloric acid, surfactants, water and metalic ions. The solution causes a chemical reaction with the Portland cement in the concrete when it is correctly applied. The colors that are achieved are permanent and depend upon the chemical makeup of the concrete floor where the acid stain product is being applied. The colors and tones of the concrete floor vary from concrete floor to concrete floor. The uniqueness of the product is what makes acid stained flooring a highly desired concrete flooring option. No two acid stain concrete floors are exactly alike.

Concrete Dyes

Unlike Acid Stain, dyes are not a chemical reaction with the concrete floor but rather a chemical dying of the concrete floor. Due to the fact that concrete dyes are not a chemical reaction, Desert Coatings only recommends using concrete floor dyes over a polished concrete surface, overlay floor or as an accent color to an acid stain concrete floor.  In addition, concrete dyes should not be used on exterior concrete floors as the UV can bleach the color from the colored concrete surface.

Smooth Trowel Overlays

A system for recovering an old ugly concrete floor with a fresh, smooth, troweled colored concrete finish. The product comes in both gray and white and it can be acid stained, concrete dyed, mixed with integral color and integral pigment to give a unique, one of a kind look for your concrete floor.  The product is installed at approximately 1/16th of an inch. Stamped Concrete Overlays

A system for recovering an old ugly concrete floor with a fresh layer of cement and then stamped with a variety of textured skins or concrete stamps to give the floor the look of rock, tile, stone, river rock, brick and much more.  The product comes in both gray and white and it can be acid stained, concrete dyed, mixed with integral color and integral pigment to give a unique one of a kind look for your concrete floor.  The product is installed at 1/4th or ½ an inch in thickness depending on the desired texture and the environmental surroundings.

Decorative Flagstone Overlays

A system for recovering an old ugly concrete floor with a fresh layer of cement and then through proprietary techniques, it is given the look of faux flagstone flooring.  The product comes in both gray and white and it can be acid stained, concrete dyed, mixed with integral color and integral pigment to give a unique one of a kind look. The product is installed at 1/4th or ½ an inch in thickness depending on the desired texture and the environmental surroundings.
